UConn President Radenka Maric is a finalist for the University of Wisconsin–Madison chancellor job

Maric is one of three Wisconsin–Madison chancellor finalists

FinalistCurrent role

John ColemanProvost, Illinois Urbana-Champaign

If you've been following the UConn leadership question, there's a new wrinkle. President Radenka Maric is one of three finalists for chancellor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, the school announced Thursday. The others are Rashid Bashir and John Coleman, both of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

It comes a week after the Connecticut Mirror reported that UConn trustees hadn't reached an agreement with Maric on a contract extension in June, and that a board emissary approached House Speaker Matt Ritter about serving as interim president. Ritter neither confirmed nor denied it. WTNH reported last week that some trustees signaled opposition to renewing her contract in a private meeting.

Maric's UConn contract and Wisconsin search run on separate clocks

  1. JuneUConn and Maric extend their deadline for resolving her status by six months.
  2. Nov. 5Wisconsin names Maric one of three chancellor finalists.
  3. Nov. 13Maric visits Madison for interviews and a public forum.
  4. June 2027Maric's five-year UConn contract expires.
  • Final call: Wisconsin's , after a special committee recommends
  • Forums: all three finalists hold campus interviews and public forums next week
  • Decision date: Wisconsin hasn't announced one
