- ➤ A Cessna Citation C550 crashed near Statesville, killing retired NASCAR driver Greg Biffle and six others, and Pratt & Whitney (headquartered in East Hartford) is helping investigators who expect a preliminary report within 30 days. Connecticut Post

- ➤ A new black-handed spider monkey was born on Dec. 18 at Beardsley Zoo and is now on display for guests. Zoo officials stress quiet voices to help protect the delicate early weeks (the baby remains close to its mother). Connecticut Post

- ➤ Trinity College in Hartford named Daniel G. Lugo its 23rd president in October. He later spoke on (The Colin McEnroe Show) to explain his vision for higher education. Connecticut Public
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ USPS Connecticut worked hard on Monday, Dec. 22 to deliver its nine billionth package during the busiest week of the year; the service added 14,000 seasonal workers and 614 new machines to manage the holiday rush. NBC Connecticut
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Advocates are pushing to bring an overdose prevention center to Connecticut to provide quick treatment for overdoses as seen in Rhode Island and New York. A proposal for such a center was rejected at the Capitol earlier this year, and supporters hope to try again soon. Connecticut Public
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ UConn women's basketball won on Saturday against ranked No. 11 Iowa with standout efforts from Azzi Fudd and Sarah Strong and is expected to keep the top spot in the AP poll. They will play Butler on Dec. 29 at 4 p.m. as the Huskies look to extend their win streak. WFSB-TV
- ➤ UConn kept its No. 1 ranking in the AP women's basketball poll after beating Iowa in the Women’s Champions Classic on Saturday. The poll shows Texas in second spot and Texas Tech entered the rankings after a close win over Baylor. NBC Connecticut
