COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Hartford officials announced the opening of 2025 Winterfest and meteorologist Jill Gilardi forecasted rain arriving Tuesday—indicating that wet weather may affect the launch as residents look forward to the event.  WFSB-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new Wells Fargo study (released recently) shows that most traditional holiday groceries cost (3%) less than last Thanksgiving. Hartford shoppers may benefit from lower prices as they plan for the upcoming holiday.  WFSB-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Connecticut and eight other states reached a $7 million settlement with Greystar over a pricing scheme that raised rent costs—an anticompetitive algorithm soon to be banned in the state. Greystar will cease using the RealPage software and sharing sensitive pricing data pending court approval, as AG Tong said.  CT News Junkie
  • Travelers at Bradley Airport are advised to allow extra time as heavy crowds gather ahead of the Thanksgiving travel period—airport officials said the rising passenger numbers may cause delays. A recent study found that traditional holiday groceries are about 3 percent cheaper than last Thanksgiving.  WFSB-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Access Health CT will hold free enrollment fairs in December to help residents sign up for health and dental plans. The Hartford event takes place at Hartford Public Library on Dec. 10 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. — if you enroll by Dec. 15, your coverage will start on Jan. 1.  CT News Junkie
  • Hartford HealthCare thoracic surgeon Brian Whang performed a segmentectomy on patient Inez Napolitano after a lung nodule grew over six years, and he now leads efforts to expand lung cancer screening. He will work to relax guidelines so more people, including minorities, can have their CT scan costs covered by insurance — aiming to boost screening rates in our area.  WTNH News 8

  • The UConn men’s basketball team may earn a new AP ranking after a week that saw them lose to Arizona on Nov. 19 and beat Bryant on Nov. 23 — the team bounced back despite Tarris Reed Jr.'s ankle injury. They will face Illinois Friday at 12:30 p.m. at Madison Square Garden.  WFSB-TV
  • UConn men's basketball center Eric Reibe earned the Big East Freshman of the Week honor after scoring 15 points against Arizona and 16 points against Bryant—averaging 15.5 points overall. Coach Dan Hurley said he will see Reibe play Friday night at Madison Square Garden—while the team awaits the return of injured starting center Tarris Reed.  Connecticut Post
  • The GameTimeCT Top 10 football poll showed no movement after Week 11—only two top teams played and New Canaan kept its No. 1 spot. Wilton and Windsor wrapped up their regular season with big wins while other top schools gear up for rivalry games before the playoffs.  Connecticut Post
  • The Manchester Road Race 2025 will take place on Thanksgiving, Nov 27, at 10 a.m. on Main Street in Manchester and expects over 12,000 runners and 30,000 fans—proceeds will help fight food insecurity in the community. Top competitors include reigning champion Weini Kelati, Olympic medalist Jenny Simpson, and Kenyan runner Dorcus Ewoi while road closures will affect local traffic.  Connecticut Post
