COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Connecticut's Gabel Basket Brigade marked 25 years of Thanksgiving aid by supplying over 70,000 holiday meals, and organizers said the group will continue its work in the future—ensuring more families receive a meal. This milestone highlights the long-term community support offered by the brigade.  FOX61
  • First Church of Christ Congregational in Glastonbury hosted its annual turkey drive Sunday morning to help feed families for Thanksgiving—within two hours the church collected over 80 turkeys and local donor Thomas Gullotta contributed $2,000, with Connecticut Foodshare set to distribute the donations.  NBC Connecticut
  • The Goff Family Foundation hosted a turkey giveaway in West Hartford on Sunday morning — 550 turkeys were distributed to help ease holiday food insecurity.  WFSB-TV
  • AMR Waterbury team collected 378 pounds of food and $118 in donations outside ShopRite in Southington on Sunday ahead of Thanksgiving — they completed a final round at the store to gather every item requested by the food pantry.  WTNH News 8

  • A LendingTree study found that women in New Haven outearn their male partners in 29.7% of households, above the national average of 25.7%. Hartford ranked 8th—registering 28.5%—and the report shows that a wide pay gap still affects many Connecticut households.  Connecticut Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Five New England states, including Connecticut, announced a $450M plan to expand affordable low-emission heat pumps in the region. The initiative will install 580,000 units and cut carbon emissions by 2.5 million metric tons by 2030 using federal funding from Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act—pushing cleaner, cost-effective energy options forward.  CT News Junkie
  • CT's only nuclear station owner said that building new nuclear plants faces major challenges and even if solved, projects will be far off; DEEP will hold sessions in December to help local municipalities understand nuclear energy options after lawmakers lifted the moratorium at the Waterford site.  CT Mirror

  • Jazz for a Cause was held on Nov 21 at Hall High School — local bands including King Philip and Bristow performed to help raise over $3,400 for the Ana Grace Project.  We-Ha

  • Yale and Central Connecticut State earned automatic bids to the 24-team FCS Playoffs on November 22 when Yale beat Harvard 45-28 at the Yale Bowl and CCSU won the Northeast Conference title by defeating Merrimack 35-28 — Yale will play Youngstown State while CCSU will face Rhode Island in the first round.  Connecticut Post
  • UConn men's basketball guard Silas Demary Jr. recorded a triple-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in a win over Bryant with a score of 72 to 49 on Nov. 23—his performance marked the 16th triple-double in UConn men's history and helped secure the victory. The junior transfer's achievement comes as UConn prepares to face more tough matchups in upcoming games.  Connecticut Post
  • Yesterday at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, top-ranked UConn beat Utah 93-41 in the Hall of Fame Women’s Showcase — Azzi Fudd scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the Huskies remain undefeated at 47-1.  NBC Connecticut
  • UConn women’s basketball beat Utah 93-41 on November 23rd at Mohegan Sun—Azzi Fudd scored 24 points with a career-high eight rebounds in the Hall of Fame Women’s Showcase. The Huskies will hold an open practice on campus Wednesday as they prepare for Big East play next Sunday.  Connecticut Post
  • Yesterday, the Dallas Wings won the WNBA Draft Lottery — earning the first overall pick for a second straight draft— while UConn star Azzi Fudd is expected to be picked early in April if she goes first overall. ESPN projects Fudd to fall within the top five and looks to her teammate Serah Williams for an early first-round selection as the lottery reshapes the upcoming season.  Connecticut Post
