COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Connecticut is offering free Thanksgiving meals and food distributions for those in need; in Hartford, Loaves and Fishes Ministries will serve meals on Wednesday, Nov 26 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and Hands on Hartford will offer meals on Thanksgiving Day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.—other towns like New Haven, North Haven, Bridgeport, and Waterbury also host free meal events.  WTNH News 8
  • Jordan's Furniture donated 300 turkeys to Connecticut Foodshare as local leaders and the Hartford Yard Goats gathered outside Dunkin’ Park—loading them onto a Foodshare delivery truck to support local food banks. The donation boosted food relief efforts across the community.  FOX61
  • Friday saw Connecticut Adoption Day bring over 40 children into new families in state courtrooms, including Taylor Jarrett who chose to stay with the Thompson family (after a difficult foster care experience) rather than live with relatives in New York.   • Top-ranked UConn will face No. 6 Michigan at Mohegan Sun Arena in a top-10 matchup. Earlier, lane closures slowed traffic on I-691 in Meriden+ Connecticut recorded its first flu death, while a barn fire in East Windsor led to road closures+ a pedestrian was struck in Enfield, and Middletown Public Schools named Alan Addley as interim superintendent.  WFSB-TV

  • Greystar and other landlords have agreed to a $7 million settlement with Connecticut and eight other states over using RealPage software that compares rental prices. The agreement—pending judge approval—will bar sharing competitors' sensitive pricing data and using anti-competitive practices in setting rents.  Connecticut Post

  • With Thanksgiving a week away, Connecticut shoppers are planning their meals as Stop & Shop offers turkey at 49 cents per pound and matches lower advertised prices while Aldi provides cheaper side dishes—both helping to drive down the cost of holiday meals.  FOX61

HEALTH NEWS

  • Connecticut residents face a loss of affordable health care on January 1 if Congress does not extend ACA subsidies that end on Dec. 31—Access Health CT CEO James Michel said many families could see yearly premium hikes of about $6,200 and up to 35% of customers may lose coverage. U.S. senators and state officials warn that rising costs will force families to make hard choices about their treatment and basic needs.  CT News Junkie
  • Sixto Esquilin Jr., a 57-year-old double amputee from East Hartford, received the new Ottobock Empower powered prosthetic device at Hartford HealthCare’s Windsor Physical Rehabilitation Facility and now finds it easier to walk, balance, and climb stairs. The battery-powered technology is a major breakthrough — it is changing prosthetics and giving him more freedom in his daily life.  FOX61
  • Connecticut reported its first flu death of the 2025 to 2026 season when a person aged between 80 and 89 in Hartford County died during the week of October 25. Public Health Commissioner Dr. Manisha Juthani urged residents to get their seasonal flu shot and updated COVID-19 vaccine as respiratory viruses continue to affect the community.  WTIC
  • Families in Connecticut are finding it hard to afford diapers as benefit freezes and shifting eligibility rules worsen the shortage; a study shows that over 38 million diapers are needed each year in the Capitol Region. The Diaper Bank of Connecticut has distributed 24 million diapers since 2021 — officials warn that this crisis may heighten health risks for children and force parents to miss work.  CT Mirror
