ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Eversource and United Illuminating will raise their rates on January 1. Eversource customers will pay about $20 more monthly as rates go from $0.097 to $0.126 per kilowatt hour—United Illuminating’s rate growth will add roughly $14 more if energy use holds steady. WTNH News 8
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A Georgetown University study finds that Connecticut college graduates earn a higher return on investment than peers in other states—Yale graduates see nearly $364,000 10 years after enrollment and UConn campuses report returns between $273,000 and $296,000. The study also shows that public school graduates gain about $45,000 more than private school peers, underscoring the long-term value of in-state education. Connecticut Post

- ➤ Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam was set to meet with local officials on Tuesday at 12:15 p.m. to discuss joining the UConn Health network under a new state plan — the state would invest $390 million over five years if the affiliation moved forward, and negotiations were expected to last about a year. - ➤ A Yale study found that during the 2022 tripledemic, many hospitals faced severe pediatric bed shortages—even as others nearby had available space—and the study said that better hospital coordination is needed to share the patient load during future surges. Connecticut Post
- ➤ NICU mom Costa recalled her preemie son was born with a brain bleed and a heart defect at CT Children’s. He underwent a new catheter surgery using a metal-mesh coil—making him the smallest in the state to have the procedure—and is now six as he shares his journey with other families. Connecticut Post
- ➤ Hartford HealthCare presented its case to state regulators Tuesday as it seeks to buy Manchester Memorial and Rockville General hospitals from Prospect Medical Holdings for $86 million—awaiting bankruptcy judge approval and a decision from the Office of Health Strategy by Dec. 30—while planning $225 million in investments over three years to upgrade the hospitals and maintain community health services. - ➤ City officials approved a 27-unit townhouse project at 91 Naugatuck St on Nov. 12 for families between 60% and 120% of area median income, as Toraal Development begins the third phase of the Brackett Knoll project (the former site of Brackett Northeast School). The plan calls for six row buildings with 54 parking spaces on a 2.3-acre site next to Parker Memorial Community Center, and the units will be sold to help buyers build home equity. Connecticut Post
