COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Morley Elementary School students walked 1.22 miles to West Hartford Town Hall with red wagons filled with food donations on Thursday morning to support the town food pantry. The annual event, in its 31st year, collected more donations than expected—adding extra supplies for local families in need.  WTNH News 8

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Metallics Inc. announced it will close its Bristol facility at 229 Cross St. and lay off 33 workers between May 1 and Sept 30. The decision — communicated by parent company NSI Industries — means affected production employees will lose their positions without union representation or bumping rights.  Connecticut Post
  • Saquon Barkley appears on new Goff Law Group billboards along major highways like I-95 and I-91 to show his career turnaround with the slogan 'Doesn't take a giant to be a champion'—the campaign links his comeback with a message that small firms can deliver strong legal results. Founder Brooke Goff met Barkley in Philadelphia for the shoot and said the ad highlights overcoming obstacles through determination.  Connecticut Post

  • Elmo’s Got the Moves will bring Sesame Street characters to the Palace Theater in Waterbury on May 30. Kids and families will sing, dance, and get a chance to snap photos with their favorite characters—an interactive show that promises fun and movement.  Connecticut Post

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Connecticut State Colleges and Universities system updated enrollment numbers for the Fall 2025 semester, showing strong growth for the upcoming academic year. Charter Oak State College increased enrollment by 17.3% — while other campuses reported increases from 4.3% to 12.7%.  WTIC
  • On November 12, Hall High School seniors such as Quinn O’Neill, Caleb Rainey, Anya Leshem, Lucy Gwiazdoski and Sienna Calabro announced their college athletic commitments during the annual signing day while family, friends and coaches celebrated their achievements—each athlete signed with schools like Bates, Bryant, Springfield, Endicott and Iona.  We-Ha
  • Governor Ned Lamont announced that the state will add up to 1,000 new spaces in its Early Start CT program and increase provider payments by 8 percent to help cover costs. The expansion — funded by the Early Childhood Education Endowment — will start in January 2026 — with child care centers, group child care homes, and public preschool classrooms invited to apply — and is the state’s largest boost to early childhood education.  WFSB-TV

  • Four CT Mirror reporters won the National Press Foundation’s AARP Award for Excellence in Journalism on Aging for their investigation into rising long-term care insurance rates affecting nearly 100,000 Connecticut policyholders — they will accept the award on March 12, 2026 in Washington, D.C.  CT Mirror
