- ➤ CT State Community College Capital hosts an interactive exhibit called Biology with a Spanish Accent at its Mallett Art Gallery in Hartford. The exhibit displays 31 photomicrograph prints that link to social media videos — blending art and science — and runs through Dec. 15. Connecticut Public
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Hartford announced eight recipients of its Neighborhood Investment Fund as part of a $5 million project that allocates $2 million to revitalize commercial corridors in the city. The fund — launched by Mayor Arulampalam — will support new businesses and housing, including a Jamaican supermarket on Albany Avenue set to open by mid-December. FOX61
- ➤ Fifth grade students in Hartford took part in Connecticut’s Kid Governor contest where 51 nominees were narrowed to seven finalists through video submissions on issues like bullying, marine pollution, and cyberbullying—each candidate focused on a specific community cause. - ➤ Family caregivers in Connecticut have reported high stress and financial hardship as nearly half experience severe stress and one in five spend 40 hours a week on unpaid care. - ➤ UConn Health submitted a bid on Friday morning to buy Waterbury Hospital from bankrupt Prospect Medical Holdings (offering $13 million in cash and assuming $22 million in debt) as a stalking horse bid that sets a minimum price for an auction scheduled for Nov. 17. If no other bidders join by Nov. 14, UConn Health will seek state, judicial, and legislative approvals to complete a deal expected to cost at least $420 million over five years (mostly to be paid through bonds). - ➤ UConn football team will host Duke today at 3:30 p.m. at Pratt and Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field in East Hartford. A win will give the Huskies their first back to back winning seasons since 2009 to 2010—while a Duke win will make the Blue Devils bowl eligible. Connecticut Post
