- ➤ After families woke up with empty SNAP cards on Saturday, Cheeks Chicken and Waffles in Manchester began offering free kids meals until benefits return. Owner Haseeb Ahmed said he started the program to help local children and parents feed their families—meeting a pressing need in the community. WFSB-TV
- ➤ The Archdiocese of Hartford announced Monday that it will direct $500,000 to food banks in Hartford, Litchfield and New Haven counties because SNAP benefits are set to lapse amid the government shutdown + the funds will supplement regular support from the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal for local families. The funding will help residents stay nourished during the crisis + support those relying on food aid until benefits resume. WTNH News 8

- ➤ Materials processor ELG Utica Alloys said it will lay off 51 workers at its Hartford facility at 239 West Service Road on Dec. 31 because it is ending solids-processing operations—layoffs include 14 torchers, 12 machine specialists and nine metal sorters. The company said about 41 of the affected workers are in a bargaining unit. Connecticut Post

- ➤ Connecticut stargazers can expect a second supermoon tomorrow and the Southern Taurids peaking tonight with additional meteor showers on November 11 and November 16. Cloudy skies may dampen early moon views—while clear skies tonight improve chances to see bright meteors when the moon is less intense. Connecticut Post

- ➤ State leaders met Monday at Hands on Hartford MANNA food pantry to address food shortages after SNAP benefits ended on Nov. 1 — Gov. Lamont said the state will fund 3 million meals for Foodshare and plans to discuss additional support in a special session next week. Food pantry leaders noted that food supplies are low as families wait for more federal aid. FOX61

- ➤ Affordable Care Act subsidies to lower health plan costs will expire on Dec. 31 unless Congress acts, and many Access Health CT enrollees may face higher premiums next year. Officials warn that some households could see a premium rise of about $198 a month—so residents are advised to wait for clearer funding decisions before enrolling. Connecticut Public

- ➤ Former UConn and NBA player Emeka Okafor joins ESPN as a color commentator for the 2025-26 college basketball season — his debut is scheduled for November 18 at Syracuse against Monmouth at 9 p.m. — He will work with fellow UConn alum Rebecca Lobo and play-by-play broadcaster Robert Lee after a career that included leading UConn to a 2004 national title. - ➤ UConn women's basketball opens its season today against ranked Louisville in the Armed Forces Classic at 5:30 p.m.—it is the first season opener against a ranked team since 2017, and Head Coach Geno Auriemma said the game will test the team's depth as players mix new roles. Connecticut Post
