ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Christine Baranski, a Connecticut resident and Emmy-winning actress, will host the Housatonic Valley Association Auction for the Environment in Morris—she is also co-chairing the Benefit Auction Committee with her daughter. The auction will offer local experiences and luxurious getaways with online silent bidding opening November 10 and live bidding on November 22.  Connecticut Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, hundreds of thousands of residents will have no SNAP benefits available for pet supplies, leaving many pet owners to choose between food for themselves and essentials for their animals. Animal welfare advocates said they received dozens of calls early Friday (at 4:27 a.m.) from concerned owners facing hard choices at the grocery store.  WFSB-TV
  • SNAP benefits are ending today in Connecticut due to the federal shutdown—about 360,000 residents will lose food aid until funds are restored. Governor Lamont has set aside $3 million for nonprofit Connecticut Foodshare while Attorney General Tong and other states pursue legal action for emergency funding.  Connecticut Post

HEALTH NEWS

  • A federal reinterpretation of a consumer reporting rule now threatens Connecticut’s law that stops hospitals from reporting medical debt to credit agencies — about 280,000 residents have used this protection. Local leaders say the change could make it harder for families to get loans and could worsen financial challenges as healthcare costs rise.  Connecticut Post
  • Yale Medicine sleep expert Dr. Lynelle Schneeberg offers simple ways to ease sleep disruption as clocks fall back by suggesting people move their bedtime forward a bit each day before the change—helping them adjust better.
