ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Hartford firefighters worked quickly to put out a fire in a Wethersfield Avenue apartment building—12 units were damaged and residents were displaced—and two people were taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.  FOX61

EDUCATION NEWS

  • More than 1,000 high school students from Connecticut and western Massachusetts attended the Aerospace Alley Tradeshow at the Connecticut Convention Center on Thursday—learning about aerospace manufacturing careers and meeting representatives from over 100 companies.  WTNH News 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Federal funding for SNAP benefits is set to stop on Saturday — leaving 360,000 residents, including 47,000 in Hartford, without new EBT assistance as the government shutdown continues. Governor Lamont has allocated $3 million to CT Foodshare for pantries and local groups and businesses are stepping in to help with food shortages.  WFSB-TV
  • State and local officials held a press conference at King Philip Middle School in West Hartford on Oct. 30th to advise families on a safe Halloween celebration. Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz, Mayor Shari Cantor, and safety advocates stressed the need for extra caution on dark, short days—emphasizing safer driving and walking as part of the Vision Zero plan.  We-Ha

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hartford HealthCare plans to invest $312 million over the next three years to combine Manchester Memorial and Rockville General under one license, making Rockville a campus of Manchester Memorial (the plan includes upgrades to IT systems, behavioral health, and surgical services). If approved by the state Office of Health Strategy within 60 days, the hospitals will come under new ownership as soon as December 27 (the merger will create the largest hospital system in the state).  Connecticut Post

  • The 2025 CIAC boys soccer state tournaments begin today with first-round games and run through November, with championships set for Nov. 15 or Nov. 16 – featuring contests in Class LL, Class L, Class M, and Class S and top seeds like Greenwich, East Lyme, and Old Saybrook – as standout players such as Cristian Habiniak and Jonathan Adadjo are expected to battle tough upsets.  Connecticut Post
  • ESPN ranked UConn sophomore Sarah Strong as the top player in women's college basketball after her strong freshman season helped the Huskies win a national title—she averaged 19.0 points and 11.7 rebounds in NCAA tournament games.   • UConn women’s basketball is aiming to win back-to-back national titles as they begin the 2025-26 season with a deep roster and new transfers. Coach Geno Auriemma said the team will start its quest on Nov. 4 to bring fresh energy and strong play to the court.  Connecticut Post
