  • More than 100 people attended the memorial ceremony at Church of the Incarnation to honor volunteer firefighter Robert Sharkevich Sr.—who died while battling the Hawthorne Fire on Lamentation Mountain over a year ago. He served for 25 years with Hartford and 22 years with Wethersfield and his family and colleagues continue his legacy through everyday acts of kindness.  FOX61

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Local stargazers in Hartford can still view the Orionids meteor shower after its peak on October 21 as clear, cool skies promise 10 to 20 meteors per hour if seen from dark areas—experts advise looking southeast toward Orion between before midnight and 2 a.m.  Connecticut Post
  • Connecticut municipalities sold 49.75 million nip bottles from April 1 to Sept. 30, generating about $2.49 million in revenue under the nickel-per-nip program (which funds cleanup efforts). New Haven led with 2.34 million nips and $117,229 collected, while Hartford earned $89,129.  Connecticut Post

  • Avelo Airlines will suspend service at Bradley International Airport after canceling its domestic routes, including the non-stop flight to Montego Bay — leaving the community surprised. The Connecticut Airport Authority said it is seeking other carriers to restore the Jamaica route — citing strong local support and airport incentives.  News 12 Connecticut

HEALTH NEWS

  • Saint Francis Hospital has scheduled a free mammogram event tomorrow, October 25, at the Karl J. Krapek, Sr. Comprehensive Women’s Health Center from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. The event offers free screening for underinsured and uninsured women and supports the hospital's commitment to equitable care.  WFSB-TV
  • More than 150,000 people may face higher health insurance costs next year as Access Health CT is set to raise rates—this change will affect local residents who rely on the program.  WFSB-TV
