  • Hartford's newly renovated PeoplesBank Arena opens today after a multi-million-dollar facelift that refreshed its interior. A local reporter previewed the updated venue ahead of its long-anticipated reopening.  WTNH News 8

  • Hartford restaurateur Gina Luari was evicted from her seafood restaurant space on Trumbull St for not paying $5,066.67 in rent as stated in a civil complaint — she faces criminal charges and has had similar issues with other locations.  CT Insider

CULTURE NEWS

  • Gov. Ned Lamont and Mayor Shari Cantor cut the ribbon yesterday at the Noah Webster House in West Hartford to mark a $700,000 restoration funded by state grants and local investment. The historic house—built in 1747—now serves as a museum that honors Noah Webster—a vital link to local history—.  We-Ha
  • Lillian Colon will present an author talk at Waterbury’s Palace Theater on October 18th—she is recognized as the first Latina Rockette.  NBC Connecticut
  • Today at Riverfront Park at 300 Welles St., the 50th Glastonbury Apple Harvest and Music Festival begins with food trucks, live music from more than 50 bands, carnival rides plus over 100 vendors selling treats and crafts. A five-kilometer road race starts on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. and tickets must be purchased each day with free entry for kids six or younger.  Connecticut Post

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Hartford Opportunity Youth Collaborative received over $1.2M from the City, Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, United Way and Aspen Institute to fund education and employment programs for local youth over the next two years—this support will help at-risk youth earn high school diplomas, continue their education and secure meaningful work while funding its first paid director position.  FOX61

  • City leaders celebrated the completion of a six-month, $2.8 million project at Bushnell Pond — the work removed silt, restored clear water and brownstone walls, and now the pond holds one million gallons for visitors.  FOX61
  • Connecticut officials and Medical Properties Trust are in a dispute over unpaid taxes—key to UConn Health’s plan to acquire Waterbury Hospital. Lawmakers may approve tax forgiveness as negotiations continue over Prospect Medical Holdings’ liabilities.  CT Mirror

HEALTH NEWS

  • A report by Correction Ombuds DeVaughn Ward found that high heat, lack of cold water and few cooling fans at Hartford, Bridgeport and Osborn Correctional Institutions put about 2,700 incarcerated people at health risk from late June to July. The Department of Correction is planning HVAC upgrades at two facilities while Osborn faces high retrofit costs—raising concerns about constitutional rights.  Connecticut Public
