COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Hundreds of veterans marched in Glastonbury on Saturday during the 13th annual Hike to Remember, a 22 km event to raise awareness about suicide prevention and funds for support—organizer Manny Jimenez, who was injured in Afghanistan, stressed the need for more help for veterans without strong support systems at home.  NBC Connecticut
  • CT Beds built beds and provided mattresses, bed sheets, and pillows for 31 Connecticut residents in need since it started in May — a move to help restore dignity. CULTURE NEWS

  • CT HorrorFest returned this weekend to Hartford’s Connecticut Convention Center where fans gathered for vendors, costume contests, and celebrity meet-and-greets (including appearances linked to Michael Myers and Jack Skellington).   • Thousands will celebrate Puerto Rican Day in Hartford today — nearly 3,000 marching participants march in the largest parade in the city and region.  FOX61

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The U.S. Department of War awarded a $670 million contract to Pratt & Whitney to work on F135 engines for F35 jets, with most work being done at the East Hartford facility. State leaders said the deal will boost our local economy and protect union jobs as the project will finish in December.  WTIC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • An independent report in New Britain found that a middle school teacher was placed on administrative leave after displaying a crucifix and making religious comments that disrupted the classroom, and she has not taught since December 2024—she now works in an administrative role as her lawsuit against the district continues.  WFSB-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new state law will let hunters use private lands to hunt on Sundays starting October 1, but they must carry written permission from the land owner. Officials say the rules require a 40-yard gap from public trails — a change that aims to give more weekend access while protecting wildlife.  Connecticut Post

HEALTH NEWS

  • Drugstores in Hartford will offer updated COVID-19 vaccines this fall and most insurers will cover them at no cost—even though a federal advisory committee did not specifically recommend the shots—and companies like CVS and Walgreens will screen patients for high-risk conditions. Insurers plan to continue coverage through 2026 so people can decide with their doctors whether the vaccine suits their needs.  NBC Connecticut
  • Hartford Healthcare has agreed to bid on Manchester Memorial Hospital and Rockville General Hospital from Prospect Medical Holdings, and the deal is not confirmed. The process will unfold over the coming weeks—negotiations and regulatory approvals are still pending.  WFSB-TV

  • Arturo Solis celebrated 50 years as head coach at O'Brien Tech when his son Adrian led Abbott Tech to win the latest Solis Bowl, marking decades of a unique family soccer tradition.   • UConn Football bounced back at Rentschler Field on Saturday in a 31—25 win against Ball State after two overtime losses, with Norwalk native Cam Edwards rushing for 194 yards and scoring two touchdowns—helping the team improve to a 2—2 record.
