  • Hartford leaders from Men Standing Up Against Violence, Hearts of Gold CT, and the Greater Hartford NAACP held an end-of-summer cookout behind the Wilson-Gray YMCA on Saturday—offering free food, mental health support, domestic violence prevention information, and voter registration to build unity and hope among local youth.  FOX61

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Early Saturday morning, firefighters responded to a fire on South Whitney Street in Hartford—displacing five families, including 10 adults and three children, from a three-story brick multi-family home—and controlled the blaze within about a half hour with no injuries reported.  NBC Connecticut

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Acme Burger, a California fast-casual chain, will open its first Connecticut franchise at 584 Main St in Middletown around Columbus Day in the former Schlein's Furniture building — a historic structure with apartments. Franchisee Christian Schunmann, with 40 years in food service, said the family-friendly restaurant will use local fresh ingredients and operate seven days a week with extended weekend hours.  Connecticut Post

CRIME NEWS

  • On Friday, Hartford police seized marijuana, crack, fentanyl, cash and a Glock at two smoke shops on Hillside Avenue and on Wadsworth Street—charging 33-year-old Tayrence Willis for running a drug factory, 32-year-old Robert Hales on narcotics grounds, and 22-year-old Michael Jurado-Reyes for firearm violations—while on Wednesday, 10 individuals were arrested on Main Street after fentanyl and other drugs were found.  WTNH News 8

SPORTS NEWS

  • The 2025 CIAC girls volleyball season will start Tuesday, Sept. 2 with matchups such as Hale Ray at Valley Regional on Sept. 2 at 5:30 p.m. and Farmington at Bristol Central on Sept. 5, and the tournament will run from playdowns on Saturday, Nov. 1 through finals on Nov. 14 and Nov. 15—with sites to be announced and several rematches lined up from last season.  Connecticut Post

  • Former UConn star Kyler Fedko leads 2025 CT minor league prospects as he has hit .270 with 26 homers, 74 RBIs, and 33 stolen bases in 110 games between Double-A Wichita and Triple-A St. Paul — he is four homers short of a 30-30 season if the Twins promote him soon.  Connecticut Post
