  • Leaders from several faith groups held a vigil Wednesday evening at the Church of Christ, Congregational on Main Street to stand with the seven workers detained by ICE at Optimo Car Wash on Main Street Saturday morning. CRIME NEWS

  • Hartford police are searching for Frank Poole, a 90-year-old man reported missing by his family when he left his home shortly after 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday and last seen in a light blue and navy blue long sleeve shirt, blue pants, and white sneakers while using a walker, standing 5-foot-7 and weighing about 160 pounds—if you have any information, call 860-757-4000.  NBC Connecticut

EDUCATION NEWS

  • New state data shows Connecticut students scored higher in English, math, and science in spring tests — the first time in ten years all groups improved. Fewer students missed class, but the overall absentee rate stays above pre-pandemic levels as the state adds more support.  WTNH News 8
  • After a shooting at a Catholic school in Minneapolis on Wednesday, Connecticut schools increased their police presence to strengthen security. New Haven officials said measures such as metal detectors, school resource officers, and regular building checks are in place — and they continue to prepare in case of emergencies.  NBC Connecticut

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • State lawmakers said Holyoke, Massachusetts released seven million gallons of raw sewage into the Connecticut River earlier this month, with wastewater reaching Suffield and Enfield—raising concerns among local fishermen. Lawmakers sent a letter to the regional EPA office and urged Massachusetts to take action, noting Connecticut has no jurisdiction over the matter.  WTNH News 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On August 28, 2025, Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam criticized the WNBA—accusing the league of blocking a deal that would relocate the Connecticut Sun to PeoplesBank Arena—and backed a Connecticut-based ownership group. He urged residents to call the league to support keeping the team in the state.  WTNH News 8

SPORTS NEWS

  • The CIAC announced the 2025 high school girls soccer season will open Tuesday, Sept 2, with reigning champions Mercy defending their title while New Canaan moves into Class LL—key games and tournament rounds are set from late October to mid-November, with the championship at Trinity Health Stadium in Hartford. The season will see three reigning champions try to defend their titles as several teams shift divisions.  Connecticut Post
