CRIME NEWS

  • A Stamford nurse pleaded guilty to tampering with controlled substances at a surgical facility and was sentenced to five months in prison with three years of supervised release, and must report on Oct. 1—she removed vials of fentanyl and hydromorphone and refilled them with saline—no patients received the altered medication.  WTNH News 8

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UConn has closed seven academic programs and discontinued three majors after reviewing courses with low student enrollment. The university will monitor about 70 additional programs in the upcoming school year—changes driven by budget strains and shifting demand.  Connecticut Post

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection warns that clean energy tax credits for electric vehicles, solar panels, and home upgrades will soon end—some expiring by September and others by December. Homeowners and buyers must act in the next few weeks to save up to $7,500 or $3,000 with federal and state incentives.  WFSB-TV
  • Yesterday, the EPA reported that Connecticut’s air quality was unhealthy for sensitive groups due to hot, dry conditions that increased the risk of brush fires. Meteorologist Dan Amarante noted that humidity and rain were expected on Wednesday while Gov. Ned Lamont’s office maintained an extreme hot weather protocol until 8 p.m. Thursday—cooling centers remain available for those in need.  Connecticut Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Attorney General William Tong announced Operation Robocall Roundup on Monday — a multistate effort by 50 attorneys general that warned 37 voice providers and 99 downstream providers for failing to block illegal robocalls. He urged residents to report unknown calls at ct.gov/agcomplaints to help investigators track the scam activity.  CT News Junkie
  • CT Transit marked 50 years of service with a celebration Tuesday at its Hartford garage and announced plans to build 750 new bus shelters with real-time arrival signs, solar lighting, and bench seating—while it moves toward a zero-emission fleet by adding 20 battery-powered buses in 2026 and converting all buses by 2035.  CT News Junkie

  • Volunteers at Village Second Chance Shops in Glastonbury, Simsbury, Suffield, and West Hartford raised over $750,000 in the fiscal year ended June 30—recording their highest total in 70 years—to fund vital family and behavioral health services.   • Hartford officials are working to move the WNBA team Connecticut Sun to the city despite the league favoring relocation bids from cities that submitted expansion requests earlier.
