ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A firefighter was rushed to New Britain General Hospital Sunday morning after he was injured battling a house fire on Maria Road in Plainville at 6:30 a.m.—officials said the home sustained extensive exterior damage while his injuries remain unknown.  NBC Connecticut

BUSINESS NEWS

  • On Friday, July 25th, Pratt & Whitney honored its century-long history by unveiling a plaque at 450 Capitol Ave in Hartford that marks the building as its original headquarters where its first engine was designed — a milestone celebrated on its 100th anniversary. Officials including Rep. John Larson and Sen. Richard Blumenthal attended the ceremony, underscoring the company’s lasting commitment to local industry.  CT Insider

CRIME NEWS

  • Vernon police warn residents today about a phone scam in which a caller falsely claims to be a police officer and alleges an arrest warrant for missed jury duty—officers say the scammer may also demand personal information or payment—residents are urged to hang up immediately.  NBC Connecticut

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Lamont is activating the state's extreme hot weather protocol today at noon amid forecast high temperatures in the low to mid 90s that can feel near 100. The protocol will run until Wednesday at 8 p.m.—cooling centers are set up across the area.  NBC Connecticut
  • Plainville honored volunteer firefighter Ray Moreau—who died on Sunday—with Gov. Ned Lamont’s order for all state-operated flags to fly at half-staff until sunset on the day of his interment. This order also encourages individuals, businesses, and schools to lower their flags accordingly.  WTNH News 8
  • Sen. Richard Blumenthal co-sponsored the Child Care for Working Families Act to help working families by capping child care fees at 15 dollars a day and ensuring those earning 85% or less of the median income pay nothing while others pay no more than 7% of their income—an approach aimed at boosting reliable funding for child care centers and supporting job growth. He said the bipartisan measure will give centers the stability they need for long-term planning.  NBC Connecticut
  • Lawmakers have pressed for answers in the case where a young man was allegedly held captive for 20 years in a Waterbury home. Next week, DCF will update on the investigation while his stepmother pleads not guilty—officials are examining how the oversight occurred.  NBC Connecticut

  • Jackson Roman, a Loyola senior (an amateur golfer from Berlin), won the 90th Connecticut Open last year at Shorehaven Golf Club by finishing three shots ahead of top competitors.
