  • Visitors at Dunkin' Park in Hartford have enjoyed the inaugural G.O.A.T. Tacos, Tequila and Taps Festival that kicked off Thursday and runs through today, offering samples from more than 20 chefs, many drink vendors and live music. Proceeds support Camp Courant and Hands On Hartford (both local organizations), bringing a community benefit to Hartford.  FOX61

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Pratt & Whitney celebrated its 100th anniversary at its Capitol Avenue headquarters in Hartford Friday, where company officials and local leaders reflected on the firm's historic role in aviation and its impact on East Hartford. The company, one of the largest employers in Connecticut, pledged to continue innovating and to train new engineers — a commitment based on a century of progress.  FOX61

CRIME NEWS

  • Hartford police searched for a suspect after shooting two men near Albany Avenue on Thursday night; both victims were taken to a nearby hospital with gunshot wounds—investigators said physical evidence at the scene matched a shooting.  WFSB-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Greater Hartford Festival of Jazz in Bushnell Park brought nearly 70,000 people together for free live music, food smells, and dancing by local, national, and international artists. The festival—running since 1991 and set to continue until Aug. 11—unites diverse community members as it celebrates Hartford’s cultural spirit.  CT Mirror

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sen. Chris Murphy and Rep. Lori Trahan reintroduced the College Athlete Economic Freedom Act on Thursday to let college athletes market their name, image, and likeness without harming international students' visa status. Later that day, Murphy joined other lawmakers to reintroduce the College Athlete Right to Organize Act — a measure to recognize athletes as employees under federal law— while an executive order on NIL standards was also issued.  Connecticut Post
  • New Haven attorney Glenn Formica challenged a new ICE policy that would limit bond hearings to those with active visas; immigrant advocates say the move lacks legal authority and could lead to more detentions—experts warn it may worsen family separations. Officials argue the interim guidance will bring consistency to immigration procedures.  Connecticut Post

  • Former UConn players Paige Bueckers and Gabby Williams made their WNBA All-Star debuts in Indianapolis on July 19th and spoke with reporters about their experiences with NIL deals and the current CBA talks.
