ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Tuesday afternoon, a boater rescued another boater and a dog when a small boat overturned in the Connecticut River near Ferry Park in Rocky Hill—firefighters, police and EMS responded to secure the boat and check the rescued individual.  NBC Connecticut

CRIME NEWS

  • Police used surveillance video & DNA tests to track down Jhaki Gunter, a 24-year-old from New Britain charged with evading responsibility with death and reckless driving after a speeding sedan struck bicyclist Rosevelt Vann Jr. on Albany Avenue in October & he is set to appear in Superior Court on Aug. 5.  CT Insider
  • The Connecticut Board of Nursing Examiners suspended the licenses of three nurses — Khadine Shields of Waterbury, Tynesha Pridgen of Hartford, and Sheryl Charlton — on July 16th for allegedly using fraudulent nursing degrees from a Florida school involved in Operation Nightingale as part of an investigation into 69 similar cases, and they will not work until a hearing takes place.  Connecticut Post
  • A man in his 20s was shot in Hartford on Tuesday night near Capitol Avenue and Orange Street when officers responded to a gunfire alert at just after 10:30 p.m. — hospital reports confirmed his critical condition — and police are investigating the shooting.  NBC Connecticut

ECONOMY NEWS

  • State lawmakers approved up to $2 million to help encourage new business leases around PeoplesBank Arena in downtown Hartford, with each business or landlord required to match the funds. The program will launch this fall—aiming to fill empty storefronts and boost dining and entertainment options.  FOX61

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Connecticut state officials say that a new federal law will change SNAP and Medicaid by shifting SNAP cost coverage to 75% and adding work requirements for Medicaid, with some changes set to begin in October and December 2026—these changes may increase state costs and reduce coverage for up to 200,000 residents. Officials will communicate updates through multiple channels to help residents understand the upcoming changes.  Connecticut Post
  • Connecticut lawmakers are shifting their views on immigration as they now oppose tougher enforcement bills that critics say weaken legal rights. They say due process must be preserved for non-citizens—raising concerns about how these changes could impact local communities.  Connecticut Public
