- ➤ An Ellington parent who lost his son to a heroin overdose in January 2016 is speaking out about fentanyl dangers through his nonprofit Today I Matter—supporting families affected by addiction. Hartford police executed a search warrant on Amity Street Thursday and arrested 39-year-old Kenny Laporte after seizing nine firearms, over 500 grams of cocaine, over 1,000 grams of fentanyl and 300 fentanyl pills intended for street sale. - ➤ A jackknifed tractor-trailer closed I-91 South between exits 32 A and B at 6:30 a.m.—state police reported possible injuries and a fuel leak was noted, so drivers must use alternate routes as officials have not given a reopening time. WTNH News 8

- ➤ Connecticut workers at Pratt & Whitney and Electric Boat approved new contracts on May 27 after a three-week strike by over 3,000 machinists and near-strike actions by about 2,500 marine drafters that began on May 5. The agreements secure wage increases, improved job security, and continued plant operations through 2029—after weeks of intense negotiations over rising living costs and benefits concerns. - ➤ On Saturday, Connecticut lawmakers passed Senate Bill 1 to set up an Early Childhood Education Endowment from surplus dollars capped at $300 million that will fund about 16,000 free or reduced cost child care spots in five years. Gov. Lamont said he would sign the bill when it reached his desk—ensuring free care for families earning less than $100,000 and cost-capped care for others. CT News Junkie
