  • Opportunity Works CT is a non profit organization in Hartford that employs otherly abled adults + offers job opportunities for those historically unemployed.  FOX61

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Guida's Dairy in New Britain will close at the end of July, ending over 90 years of service and laying off 205 workers. Dairy Farmers of America said it will offer support for affected employees & is working on plans for the adjacent apartments.  NBC Connecticut

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Gov. Lamont announced a 23-member Blue-Ribbon Commission on K-12 education funding that includes teachers, superintendents, and a mayor. The commission will first meet on June 4 and deliver its report by Jan. 15.  CT News Junkie
  • The Hartford Knights (program) is helping local student-athletes succeed in the classroom and on the basketball court. The initiative partners with schools to provide both academic and athletic support.  FOX61

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • State forester Chris Martin said wildfires in Connecticut have gotten smaller due to increased urbanization & tighter regulations, but many dead trees and drought could fuel future fires during spring, summer, and fall.  CT Mirror
  • Even though federal funding was reduced, local leaders are moving ahead to convert an old landfill (the future solar array site) into a renewable energy facility that will power city buildings and serve low-income households.  Connecticut Public

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Connecticut officials are exploring advanced nuclear power plants using smaller reactors (designed for safety) and are hosting workshops to gather input from towns on potential sites. Commissioner Katie Dykes said the effort is aimed at meeting rising energy demands from households and industry, with new facilities possibly emerging in the mid-2030s.  Connecticut Public
  • Officials said that on Mar. 25 the HUSKY provider portal was secured after a threat actor used compromised Hartford HealthCare employee credentials on Mar. 4 to download patient files—financial and Social Security numbers were not accessed. Affected individuals were notified by mail on May 22 with free (two-year) identity and credit monitoring offered.  CT News Junkie
  • An unauthorized third party accessed roughly 22,500 Hartford HealthCare accounts on March 4 using compromised employee credentials through Connecticut's Medicaid provider portal (HUSKY) and Social Services and Gainwell secured the portal immediately while notifying those affected by mail and offering complimentary monitoring services.  NBC Connecticut
