- ➤ The Health Collective will host its 31st annual Queer Prom event with an enchanted forest theme at the Mark Twain House in Hartford on Friday, June 27 from 6 to 9 p.m. High school juniors and seniors will have a safe space with a sensory room available & trained volunteers ensuring supervised activities and fee assistance for those in need. - ➤ Pratt and Whitney workers in East Hartford and Middletown have been on strike for 12 days over wages, retirement, and job security. Last week saw high support and while health care coverage ends Monday — the strike committee hopes Senator Chris Murphy’s visit will pressure the company into a fair deal, the company still has not responded. - ➤ On May 1, 2025, the Rotary Club of West Hartford presented a $2,299.50 check to local author Daniel Howell to support his in-school reading initiative featuring his children’s book The Four Bees — Bee 4 Goodnight. The donation—part of a drive that raised over $5,000 and collected 1,500 books—will fund author visits and book deliveries to seven Greater Hartford elementary schools throughout May. We-Ha
- ➤ On May 16th, first-generation UHart students and their families gathered at the Gengras Student Union North and South Café for a dinner celebration where special cords were given for Commencement. Kevin Lopez Giraldo, now a student success advisor at American International College, spoke to share his own journey and encourage the students to turn challenges into stepping stones—highlighting the strength found in overcoming an unfamiliar path. - ➤ On March 11, the Connecticut Senate unanimously approved a bill to expand the Fallen Officer Fund to cover all first responders killed in the line of duty, which will provide a $100,000 death benefit & up to five years of continued health insurance to surviving families. The legislation, championed by Senator Gaston, is set to take effect on July 1 pending House passage and the governor’s signature. CT News Junkie
