- ➤ Puerto Rican organizers in Hartford and other cities will host parades and festivals from June through September to celebrate heritage and boost local economies. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A bill that passed the Public Safety Committee now awaits a House hearing and would create an institute at Southern Connecticut State University to train police and social workers together to help in crises—programs in Norwich and Milford have shown promise. - ➤ Attorneys general from 20 states filed a brief in the District Court in Washington to block layoffs and policy changes at the Social Security Administration, saying that staff cuts and new rules have threatened benefits for millions. They argued that the reduced workforce and stricter requirements have created chaos that could harm seniors and people with disabilities—officials hope a court injunction will stop further changes. Ned Lamont unveiled an online reporting tool that lets municipalities, businesses and nonprofits report how federal actions have affected their funding, workforce and projects; state agencies will compile the reports (which include funding cuts, employment reductions and project cancellations) to guide future policy responses.
