  • At a Wolf Pack hockey game, a Hartford officer helped a young girl who was upset over missing a t-shirt giveaway by buying her a hockey toy and soccer ball. A local family later sent a letter praising his act of kindness and noting the positive role police play in our community.  WFSB-TV
  • Today, applications open for NBCUniversal Local Impact Grants awarding $2.5 million to nonprofits across 11 markets (including Hartford). Eligible 501(c)(3) organizations with expenses between $100,000 and $1 million must focus on youth education, emerging storytelling, or community engagement.  NBC Connecticut

  • Seven pedestrians died on Connecticut roads this year, prompting local officials to urge drivers to slow down and stay alert on Hartford streets as warmer weather brings more people outdoors.  WFSB-TV

  • A new photo exhibition at the State Capitol features black and white images of unhoused residents from Greater Hartford — Farmington native Phil Farnsworth created the exhibit to spotlight rising homelessness, and a permanent version will be added while it visits other state venues.  Connecticut Public

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A study at the Puerto Ricans in Connecticut Policy Summit shows that Puerto Ricans contributed about $11,100 million to the state’s economy, roughly 3.9% of its GDP. Researchers used ACS data – 2019 to 2023 and plan to refine local estimates, focusing on areas from Waterbury to Hartford.  Connecticut Public

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Connecticut officials announced new rules making products containing substances such as kratom, bromazolam, and tianeptine illegal to possess, sell, or distribute, effective today — a move aimed at protecting vulnerable residents from deceptive marketing.  We-Ha
  • Service adjustments will affect the Hartford Line from Tuesday, Apr. 21 to Friday, Oct. 30 as Amtrak starts construction projects. Weekday trains between Springfield and Hartford will be replaced by bus service during work scheduled Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., with further details coming in April.  NBC Connecticut

HEALTH NEWS

  • State officials from the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, National Guard Counterdrug Program, State Police and Mental Health and Addiction Services boosted naloxone availability on Tuesday morning to reduce opioid overdoses as warmer weather approaches—kits will go to every state trooper to improve life-saving access.  CT News Junkie

  • UConn’s top-seeded women beat Syracuse 98-45 in the NCAA tournament on Monday night and advanced to the Sweet 16. The university is set to begin a nearly $100 million upgrade of Gampel Pavilion, adding new seats, box suites and improved systems.  WFSB-TV
