BUSINESS NEWS

  • Stanley Black & Decker will close its tape measure plant in New Britain, cutting about 300 jobs, a state official said. The company will help affected workers with severance and job placement support as its nearby headquarters remains open.  WFSB-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Connecticut DMV and Hispanic-American Veterans of Connecticut, Inc. unveiled a new specialty license plate honoring the 65th Infantry Regiment (Borinqueneers), a unit of Puerto Rican soldiers recognized for wartime valor; plate fees range from $60 to $156, with part of the proceeds funding bilingual veteran services.  WTIC
  • Rocky Hill's Concierge apartment complex management JRK Property Holdings has agreed to a $5.1 million relief package to help residents displaced this winter by maintenance issues; the compensation includes cash payments of $1,100 — $1,700 per unit and lease break options, and Mayor Allan Smith said it addresses health and safety concerns.  WTIC

  • UConn routed St. John’s 72 to 40 Wednesday night at PeoplesBank Arena in Hartford as the Huskies avenged their earlier loss; senior center Tarris Reed, Jr. led the win with 20 points, 11 rebounds & six blocks while UConn moved into first place in the Big East.  FOX61
  • The top-ranked UConn women's basketball team hosted Georgetown last night at PeoplesBank Arena in Hartford. The Huskies played their final regular season home game with a 7 p.m. tip-off and pregame coverage at 6:30 p.m. on WWAX, while TNT and truTV broadcast the game.  WFSB-TV
  • On Feb. 25, Conard beat Rocky Hill 3-0 in West Hartford (the team's last home game) as Gavin Mangini scored 13 seconds into play and goalie Chase Emery made 23 saves to secure a shutout and claim first place in CCC South. They close the season against Glastonbury Saturday.  We-Ha
