COMMUNITY NEWS

  • South Windsor native Navy Capt. Jack Hathaway will pilot NASA’s SpaceX Crew-12 mission to the International Space Station today at 5:15 a.m. EDT; his eight-month mission will support research for Moon and Mars with a crew that includes Spacecraft Commander Jessica Meir (and specialists from Europe and Russia).  FOX61
  • Black Boarders CT is expanding a program for kids of color and mothers after founder Vince Stimpson’s daughter requested more diverse slopes representation. Enrollment grew from 5 to 25 youth, and the program will receive funding to support 15 mothers (via Moms on Mountains) as it reaches more families.  NBC Connecticut

  • Construction is underway for KPot Korean BBQ & Hot Pot at Charter Oak Marketplace, where the new restaurant will offer Korean barbecue and Asian hot pot dining with futuristic blue light fixtures + steel-colored accents. EDUCATION NEWS

  • State leaders are discussing reforms to the Education Cost Sharing formula to lessen school funding gaps that left Hartford schools losing $2.7 million and underfunded districts struggling (polls show strong voter support).   • West Hartford Public Schools is preparing to switch Conard and Hall to block scheduling in fall, with a final decision expected next month. The plan will allow longer class periods & a set lunch period to help students earn more credits.  We-Ha

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Ned Lamont proposed a supplemental graduate student loan program for nursing, social work, and physical therapy students via Senate Bill 85, which was referred to the Joint Committee on Finance, Revenue and Bonding on Feb. 5. HEALTH NEWS

  • Peggy Healey, 93, was found in the snow near Bickford Health Care Center after being left outside over three hours with a wind chill of -15; staff delayed calling 911 for more than an hour, and Windsor Locks Police are now investigating as her family mourns and raises safety concerns.  NBC Connecticut

SPORTS NEWS

  • UConn women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma is tweaking the team’s game plan for the final five contests to chase an 11th undefeated season, focusing on better offensive rebounding and reducing fouls. The adjustments come after a game against Creighton that ended with a 50 point margin.  Connecticut Post
  • UConn’s Alex Karaban (115 wins) matched his program record on Wednesday and will break it if the Huskies defeat Georgetown at Gampel Pavilion on Saturday.  Connecticut Post
  • Connecticut baseball fans will soon watch four Red Sox spring training games free over the air on WWAX, thanks to a new partnership with WFSB and NESN. The games air on Feb. 28, Mar. 7, Mar. 14 and Mar. 21 (antenna required).  WFSB-TV
  • UConn baseball manager Jim Penders (skipper since 2004) said his 2026 team shows strong chemistry as they start the season opener today in Arizona against Nebraska.  FOX61
  • Bristol boy Jensen Petersen, who was born with cerebral palsy, joined the Trinity College hockey team through a nonprofit program that pairs children with sports teams. He signed his letter of intent at Greene-Hills School (in Bristol) and will cheer for the Bantams even if he may not skate.  WFSB-TV
