  • A weekend snowstorm dropping over a foot of snow and below-freezing temperatures has prompted Milford’s Beth-El Center to secure motel rooms for 20 unsheltered residents, with 40 more placed in shelters and church overflows while outreach workers arrange rides and supplies to help safely pack up belongings.  CT Mirror

  • The Fray will perform at Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater in Bridgeport on Aug. 23 as part of its Summer of Light tour. General tickets go on sale Friday and the band will debut new songs from its first album in over a decade, A Light That Waits, set for release on Mar. 13.  Connecticut Post
  • Kid Cudi will perform at The Meadows Music Theatre in Hartford on June 3 as part of his Rebel Ragers Tour featuring hits such as Day ’N’ Nite, Mr. Rager and Maui Wowie, with guest appearances by Big Boi, M.I.A & A-Trak.  Connecticut Post

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Crews cleared heavy snow from Winter Storm Benjamin in Hartford Monday, leaving icy conditions. I-95 in Milford remained treacherous & Waterbury closed municipal offices after 15 inches of snow fell, prompting local officials to advise caution.  WFSB-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Ned Lamont extended the Severe Cold Weather Protocol until noon on Thursday, Feb. 5 because frigid temperatures are expected to keep overnight lows in the single digits and below zero on some nights; shelters and warming centers remain available for those in need.  WFSB-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • The CDC updated its recommendations for childhood vaccines on Jan. 5 — Connecticut officials say the public school schedule still requires the full set of immunizations, and all vaccines remain covered by insurance. Doctors will use clinical decision-making for optional vaccines when needed.  CT Mirror
  • Connecticut launched a public dashboard to track emergency room crowding using boarding data. The report shows that nearly 40% of patients needing in-patient care waited over four hours in the ED, and healthcare experts hope the tool will spur new solutions.  Connecticut Public

  • The UConn Huskies, riding a 15-game win streak and ranked No. 2 in the Big East, are set to face the struggling Providence Friars today at Gampel Pavilion at 7:30 p.m. on TNT (truTV) in a game where UConn may miss Braylon Mullins due to concussion protocol.  Connecticut Post
  • UConn women's basketball players Sarah Strong and Blanca Quiñonez earned Big East weekly honors for the sixth time this season (announced Monday, Jan. 22). Strong received Player of the Week and Quiñonez earned Freshman of the Week (after a 3-0 week).  Connecticut Post
  • Former UConn forward Aaliyah Edwards will be inducted into the Huskies of Honor on Wednesday night. She becomes the 24th honoree after earning WBCA All-American honors and credits her time at Gampel Pavilion for building her successful pro career.  Connecticut Post
