  • The Connecticut Foundation for Open Government will host its 10th annual 'Stories Behind the Big Stories' panel discussion on Jan. 20 at Elmwood Community Center in West Hartford — the event will spotlight investigative reporters discussing key journalistic discoveries from last year.  We-Ha
  • Noah Cornelius joined NBC Connecticut as its newest morning reporter and will appear on air from Saturday to Wednesday at 5 a.m., 7 a.m., and 11 a.m. The West Hartford-based station hired him from Appleton, Wis, as he pursues his goal to host a morning show in New York City.  Connecticut Post

  • Maria Romero Pareja from the West Hartford Adult Education ESL program began tutoring Sedgwick Middle School students in mid-November. She moved from Spain with her husband last year to improve her English and career prospects while helping students build speaking and reading skills.  We-Ha

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Access Health CT in Hartford has extended the final deadline to enroll in health and dental plans for 2026 to Saturday, Jan. 31 (coverage starts Feb. 1), and state officials say many eligible residents can get new subsidy help under updated federal and state rules.  CT News Junkie

HEALTH NEWS

  • Connecticut hospitals are adding extra beds and makeshift rooms as flu cases surge in the region and ERs have been crowded since Thanksgiving. Doctors urge patients to use primary care or urgent care options unless they have serious symptoms.  WFSB-TV
  • Hartford residents can sign up for health and dental plans through Access Health CT until Jan. 31 for coverage starting Feb. 1 — the extension helps customers explore new state subsidies and financial assistance options following recent changes. Renewals and in-person help are also available.  WFSB-TV
  • Connecticut will get $154M in federal funds to boost rural health care and access, and the state is hiring three new workers to manage the grant. The money, part of a five-year Rural Health Transformation Program, comes as Medicaid cuts are expected later this year.  CT Mirror

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Developers east of the Connecticut River approved thousands of new housing units in 2025, with projects including the Enfield Square Mall overhaul + adaptive reuse of the MassMutual campus set to break ground this spring. Additional developments in Manchester, East Hartford and nearby towns aim to ease the housing shortage.  Connecticut Post

SPORTS NEWS

  • The UConn men's basketball team will play its first home game in almost a month as it faces Marquette at Gampel Pavilion this Sunday at 2 p.m. The game will air on NBC plus stream on Peacock.  WFSB-TV
  • UConn will honor its 2015 and 2016 championship teams at a pregame ceremony on Jan. 15 at Gampel Pavilion as part of a 10-year anniversary celebration. Key players, including Breanna Stewart and Moriah Jefferson, will be inducted into the Huskies of Honor program.  Connecticut Post
  • UConn’s top-ranked women’s basketball team hosts Seton Hall today at noon at PeoplesBank Arena in Hartford. The Huskies recently won 90-53 over Providence while missing guard KK Arnold and forward Ayanna Patterson due to injuries, and they will face St. John’s next Wednesday.  WFSB-TV
  • UConn women's basketball returned from the holidays slowly without KK Arnold, who is out with a broken nose. The team (led by Azzi Fudd and Sarah Strong) will host Seton Hall in Hartford as it works to regain its dominant start.  Connecticut Post
