Connecticut-based Pratt & Whitney has been awarded a $1.6 billion contract from the federal government to work on engines for F-35 fighter jets.
Forty percent of the work will be done at its East Hartford facility and is set to be finished next November — the new deal adds to several similar contracts in recent years.

Connecticut is set to host a busy lineup of holiday events this December with concerts, theater, and comedy shows scheduled at venues in Wallingford, Uncasville, Stamford, and Bridgeport.
Ticket prices range from about $39 to over $335 — residents can join performances by Straight No Chaser, Earth, Wind & Fire, Steve Martin with Martin Short, and the Harlem Globetrotters as the state celebrates the season.

Connecticut has agreed to pay $2.25M to settle a wrongful death suit after visiting nurse Joyce Grayson was killed in 2023 while working at a halfway house.
Her family will meet with state leaders and defendants to discuss improving safety for home care workers — meeting dates have not yet been set.
Connecticut lawmakers plan to propose universal school meals during the 2026 session to help feed every student—rising food insecurity and SNAP changes have spurred this push.
They are considering funding from a sugary drink tax and other sources to back the plan—if passed, the program would give all students free breakfast and lunch.

The UConn men's basketball team stays in the top 5 for five straight weeks—the first time since the 2008-09 season—after a 74-61 win over Illinois last week.
With its full roster back, the team will test its strength tonight against No.21 Kansas.
Today, four CIAC Class MM Football Quarterfinal games will start at 6:30 p.m. at the higher seed’s home field (Plainfield/Quinebaug Valley vs Windsor, Torrington vs Wilton, Fitch vs Bunnell, and Middletown vs Newington).
Semifinals are scheduled for December 7 and finals for December 12-13, with dates subject to weather changes.
CIAC Class SS high school football quarterfinal games will be played today at 6:30 p.m. on the higher seed home fields.
Matchups include Ellington hosting Killingly at Morgan Field, Waterford facing Daniel Hand at Surf Club in Madison, New Fairfield taking on Nonnewaug at Nonnewaug High School in Woodbury, and Ledyard playing Jonathan Law at 6 p.m. at Jonathan Law High School.
The University of Connecticut women's basketball team remains top-ranked in the AP poll after defeating Xavier 104—39 on Sunday and maintaining an unbeaten 7—0 record.
The Huskies will face South Florida at 5 p.m. today on ESPN2.
The UConn men’s basketball team may move up in Monday’s AP poll after beating Illinois and with Houston’s loss—adding momentum as they face Kansas today at 9 p.m. in Lawrence.
