BUSINESS NEWS

  • West Hartford businesses are changing as Shinjuku Station will open a new conveyor belt sushi restaurant at Prospect Plaza sometime in 2026—reviving a style last seen when Umi Sushi closed—and Joey Cusano's upscale deli Mozz & Co. is set to open next week after New Year's in a renovated space on Raymond Road. Comcast/Xfinity will also take over the former GNC space at Bishops Corner as other local business updates signal busy days ahead.  We-Ha

ECONOMY NEWS

  • According to the National Retail Federation, 73 million people are expected to shop online for Cyber Monday and experts advise that buyers compare prices, use trustworthy websites, and check buy now pay later deadlines (such as due dates) to avoid extra costs. They also warn that shoppers should track their deliveries to keep packages safe from theft.  WFSB-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UConn announced a one-year MBA program that will launch next summer at its Stamford, Norwalk and online campuses – it offers 42 credits in 14 courses at the same tuition rate as its current MBA tracks. The new program will give both domestic and international students a faster way to earn their degree – drawing recent graduates and working professionals.  Connecticut Post

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Connecticut Green Bank is now a public developer that builds solar projects for schools, towns and low-income housing through its Solar MAP+ program. It has deployed $145 million for 54 megawatts of solar power that will save $57 million in energy costs and serve as a model for other states.  CT News Junkie

FINANCE NEWS

  • A Powerball ticket sold in Connecticut won $50,000 on Saturday night by matching four white balls and the Powerball — no jackpot was picked and the next drawing is set for tonight with an estimated $740 million prize and a cash value of $346.1 million.  NBC Connecticut

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Connecticut's State Fire Marshal Lauri Volkert warned that using a charger not approved by the device maker can lead to fire hazards with lithium-ion products. Fire departments will begin using a new system called NERIS by January 1—this will help them track incidents and guide safety efforts.  Connecticut Public

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • The Hartford Marathon Foundation with title sponsor CLA will host the festive Blue Back Mitten Run 5K at West Hartford’s Blue Back Square on Sunday, Dec. 7 with adult races beginning at 10:30 a.m. and FitKids runs at 10 a.m.—runners are encouraged to bring new mittens and winter hats for donation.  We-Ha
  • Magician Jason Bird will perform his 'Parlor of Impossibilities' at The Delamar Hotel in West Hartford on Dec. 14 with shows at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. The intimate performance will have only 70 seats — tickets are expected to sell out quickly — and it will let the audience take part in the magic.  We-Ha

SPORTS NEWS

  • The top-ranked UConn Women’s Basketball team beat Xavier in Cincinnati with a 104—39 win as six players scored in double figures and Allie Ziebell scored 16 points, which improved their record to seven wins this season. The Huskies will play South Florida in a road game scheduled for Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. in Tampa.  WFSB-TV
  • After head coach Jim Mora left for Colorado State, nine Huskies announced they will enter the transfer portal starting Jan. 2 — including key players such as linebacker Oumar Diomande, offensive tackle Ben Murawski, wide receiver John Neider, and defensive back Cam Chadwick — as the football program adjusts its roster for next season.  Connecticut Post
