Nearly 2,000 boxes filled with everyday items were packed and shipped overseas as part of the Boxes to Boots event, Operation Cares 2025, to thank military members for their service (veteran Oscar Rivera and local residents said the gesture means a lot).
A West Hartford couple turned their destination wedding in Jamaica into a hurricane relief mission after Hurricane Melissa hit the island last month.
They returned to Connecticut Friday with ten suitcases of donations— and they continue a drive at Restaurant Bricco to help families rebuild.
Students at Aiken Elementary in West Hartford participated in their second annual fun run on Saturday to raise money and collect non-perishable food for the local food pantry.
The event gave kids a chance to exercise and share holiday spirit — the donations will help support families in need.
🎓 Education
School leaders at Hartford Public High School unveiled a new mural Saturday to honor student achievements and former athletes such as Pablo Franco, Eddie Griffin, Marlon Starling, and Coach Larry Amann.
Artist Katiana Jarbath Smith created the mural—featuring parts of the school’s programs and the words 'You Can’t Rock The Pub'—to inspire current students.

A Mega Millions player in Georgia won $980 million on Friday by matching all six numbers, while four winners in Connecticut from Bloomfield, New Britain, Wolcott and Hartford claimed prizes totaling $140,000.
The winner can choose a cash option of $452.2 million or annuity payments, and no CT player had won the jackpot since joining Mega Millions in 2010 — the next drawing is Tuesday.
🏈 Sports
No. 3 UConn edged out No. 7 BYU 86-84 at TD Garden on Saturday with Silas Demary Jr. scoring 21 points and making a key steal—stopping BYU's late rally.
Other leaders included Tarris Reed Jr. and Alex Karaban with 21 points each and BYU freshman AJ Dybantsa with 25 points as UConn began a five-game stretch in the Naismith Hall of Fame series.
Cam Edwards rushed for 165 yards and scored two touchdowns, finishing with 1,031 yards to break the 1,000-yard threshold as UConn beat Air Force 26-16 on Saturday at Pratt & Whitney Stadium in East Hartford.
The Huskies scored a touchdown on the first possession of each half and added a 47-yard field goal from Chris Freeman to secure the win.
