COMMUNITY NEWS

  • In Connecticut, local churches+ nonprofits and community groups are organizing relief efforts for Hurricane Melissa victims, collecting needed supplies and coordinating with aid agencies to help those affected by the storm in the Caribbean. Residents can donate items like nonperishable food and clothing at drop-off spots across the state.  CT Mirror
  • House of Heroes CT has fixed nearly 300 houses for veterans and their spouses and will repair 37 more ahead of Veterans Day—helped by Quinnipiac University students. Executive Director Carol May said the work honors veterans for their service.  NBC Connecticut

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At UConn, English professor Brenda Brueggemann and her students have spent three years researching the history of the Mansfield Training School—an institution that once housed people with intellectual disabilities and left behind a controversial legacy along Route 44. Their project uses archival records and personal interviews to build a memorial website that preserves the human stories behind the site.  CT Mirror

  • Gov. Lamont announced on November 8 that Connecticut SNAP recipients received full November benefits on their EBT cards—providing support for about 360,000 people who rely on the program.  WTNH News 8

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Saturday, November 8, over 4,000 volunteers helped Hartford HealthCare provide free health treatments and essential services at seven Connecticut locations — the annual Medical Mission reached many who needed care.  WTNH News 8

SPORTS NEWS

  • UConn football beat Duke 37—34 at Rentschler Field on Nov. 8 with a late touchdown pass and a key forced fumble that energized the home crowd. The win built momentum toward bowl eligibility—paving the way for the final home game against Air Force.  Connecticut Post
  • UConn's women's basketball team is set to host Florida State today at Gampel Pavilion at 4:30 p.m. while unveiling its championship banner at 4:10 p.m.—the team will also reveal a second banner at PeoplesBank Arena on Nov. 16.  Connecticut Post
  • UConn clinched a 37-34 win over Duke on Saturday when Joe Fagnano threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Skyler Bell with 1:58 left (and Bryun Parham recovered a late fumble to end Duke’s drive). The victory marked UConn’s second win over an ACC team this season.  NBC Connecticut
  • On Nov. 7, Conard ended its three-game losing streak by beating Simsbury 21-13 in West Hartford—Taurean Cauley made a game-winning interception with 50 seconds left.  We-Ha
  • Hall fought through a late surge by Manchester and won 37–30 in a home game in West Hartford — Tommy Hussey threw four touchdown passes to spark the comeback after early struggles.  We-Ha
