On Saturday, Oct. 3, West Hartford hosted the inaugural Fall for Park Road festival in the Park Road neighborhood (built on the tradition of the Park Road Parade) with free ice cream, live music and a trolley ride for families.
The event celebrated local businesses and community spirit.
Parents and community members are urging Hartford officials to enhance safety measures for children commuting to and from Maria Sanchez Elementary School, as they call for a review of pedestrian routes and traffic conditions near the school.

State police, lawmakers and traffic safety advocates urge drivers to slow down and move over for roadside workers after fatal crashes, including the death of a DOT worker in Fairfield — officials have increased trooper presence and launched speed cameras to boost work zone safety.

Home Depot helped Wren Kitchens customers after the bankruptcy filing on April 24 by providing $1.2 million in payments & discounts to 286 buyers with unfinished orders.
The store will continue offering support through Oct. 31.
🎓 Education
The Connecticut State Department of Education announced a $4.7 million, five-year federal grant to expand apprenticeship programs that train special education and early intervention teachers.
The state will build on a current $2 million investment to address teacher shortages.
🌲 Environment
A new study shows that more wind and renewable power could cut electric bills by up to $60 a month in Connecticut — a saving that may prompt further clean energy investment.
🏛️ Government
On July 31, the CT Departments of Veterans Affairs and Transportation launched a program giving veterans free bus passes to ride public transit for work, appointments, or errands.
Veterans must apply online with a valid ID and choose from available routes.
Gov. Lamont and state officials met Monday in Stamford to detail efforts to protect Medicaid coverage amid federal work requirements that affect 108,000 HUSKY D residents — with systems set up for 300,000 enrollees.
The governor said no state funds have been pledged yet as he awaits further federal action.

New research in Hartford shows that youth have had more suicidal thoughts since around 2009 and injuries from e-bikes nearly quadrupled from 2019 to 2025 (studies also find that children exposed to e-cigarette smoke at home face higher asthma risks).

UConn scored 20 unanswered points to tie the game but lost 42 to 41 in overtime when Syracuse won on a final two point conversion — the Huskies now sit 2-3 as they head to their road game at Temple on Saturday.
