ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A tree fell on a live wire near South and Beech Road in Enfield around 9:15 a.m. Monday—causing closures on South and Raffia Roads and leaving about 521 people without power while Eversource was notified.  WTNH News 8

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Connecticut will provide almost $2.5 billion through its Education Cost Sharing program to help local schools, though critics say the funding has not kept pace with rising prices. Lawmakers have used a hold harmless rule—protecting more than 80 districts from cuts for two years—as they work to balance the funding gap.  CT Mirror
  • The Haven Help Foundation distributed over 200 backpacks and school supplies to Hartford students returning to school this week — the event featured a DJ and bounce house to support families in need. The nonprofit partnered with local groups like Oh Yeahhh Jeep Crew to help ease the financial strain on parents during the back-to-school season.  FOX61

FINANCE NEWS

  • A Connecticut ticket matched all five white balls and won $1 million in Saturday’s Powerball drawing—no $1 billion winner emerged. The jackpot has grown to $1.10 billion as the next drawing is set for Monday.  NBC Connecticut
  • A ticket purchased in Connecticut on Saturday won $1 million in the Powerball drawing while the jackpot remained open. The Connecticut Lottery also awarded a $50,000 prize and said the next drawing is set for Monday at 10:59 p.m.  WFSB-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Connecticut will hold its Sept. 9 primary elections to choose candidates for municipal offices in Norwalk, Hamden, New Haven, and other towns, with early voting running Sept. 2—7. Voters registered by Aug. 29 must complete in-person registration by Sept. 8 or use absentee ballots if they qualify.  Connecticut Post
