Plainville’s 39th annual Hot Air Balloon Festival lit up Norton Park Saturday morning with vibrant balloons, food trucks, live bands and rides for all ages.

Organized by the Plainville Fire Company, the event raised funds for scholarships and local organizations (with the craft vendor fair opening at 9 a.m.)

A new Catholic high school opened on Friday in New Britain — the Chesterton Academy of St. Francis of Assisi — with a ribbon cutting for its founding class behind the church; school leaders said enrollment remains open amid growing interest in Catholic education.

Safe Routes Connecticut will hold another workshop today on Center Streets near LaSalle Road for residents looking to boost travel safety.
