ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Hartford community held a vigil to honor four people killed in a house fire on Monday night—neighbors gathered to remember the victims and offer support.  WFSB-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • A motorcyclist died Saturday evening after colliding with a vehicle at the 700 block of Maple Avenue in Hartford, and officers arrived around 8 p.m. to find a blue Yamaha YZ250 ridden by Luis Jiminez Flores (26) who was taken to Hartford Hospital and later pronounced dead as police located the other driver on Bushnell Street.  NBC Connecticut
  • Hartford police are investigating a homicide after a shot victim, identified as 25-year-old Niajae Vernon, was found near Main Street at 1:42 a.m. and taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead + a car missing its front bumper was towed from the scene.  WFSB-TV
  • Hartford police responded to gunfire reports at 19 Carrie Perry Way at around 1:15 a.m. yesterday when a man in his thirties was shot and taken to a local hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition—investigators from the Major Crimes and Crime Scene divisions are examining the case.  WTNH News 8
  • Just after 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Hartford police responded to a report of a shooting at 3250 Main Street near a gas station where they found 25-year-old Niajae Vernon unresponsive, who was pronounced dead at a hospital—about thirty minutes earlier, officers had treated a man in his 30s at 19 Carrie Perry Way who was in critical condition.  WTIC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • West Hartford teachers begin the school year today and students will return on August 27. Superintendent Paul Vicinus said the district made few leadership changes and is finalizing hiring for about 60 new teachers—aiming for a strong academic year.  We-Ha

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sen. Ryan Fazio of Greenwich is running for governor to bring a new balance to state leadership by lowering taxes, energy prices, and housing costs. He said he will expand affordable gas supply and ease zoning rules to give local towns more control—aiming for a fairer system in Connecticut.  NBC Connecticut
  • Attorney General William Tong said a federal appeals court upheld Connecticut’s assault weapons and large capacity magazine bans, noting that the Second Amendment does not allow unlimited gun rights. He added that the ruling shows the law can impose needed limits to keep dangerous weapons off our streets—protecting families and schools.  CT News Junkie
