CRIME NEWS

  • State police and the state Department of Correction are investigating the death of an inmate found unresponsive in his cell at MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m.—he was taken to a hospital and later died while the medical examiner will determine his cause.  NBC Connecticut

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chris Brown will perform his Breezy Bowl XX Tour at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field in East Hartford on Saturday — the first event in 18 years — as Oak View Group warns of heavy traffic in the area. Parking lots open at 2 p.m. and gates at 5 p.m., and the concert starts at 7 p.m. while fans must follow a strict no bag rule except for small allowed items.  NBC Connecticut

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hundreds of families attended a back-to-school event at Dunkin’ Park on Thursday where the Urban League of Greater Hartford partnered with Angel of Edgewood to offer backpacks, school supplies, fresh produce, banking and healthcare information, and free blood pressure and glucose checks—providing essential support for local families.  NBC Connecticut
  • Connecticut International Baccalaureate Academy in East Hartford was named the best high school in Connecticut for a second consecutive year by U.S. News and World Report—using state test scores, graduation rates, and college readiness measures.  FOX61

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After deadly fires destroyed homes in towns such as Hartford, Cheshire, Southington, Rocky Hill and Meriden, State Fire Marshal Lauri Volkert launched the Fire Safe CT initiative on Thursday to boost fire safety measures. She urged residents to test smoke alarms and draw up an escape plan — knowing that less than two minutes can make a difference — as firefighters work to keep everyone safe.  FOX61
  • Gov. Ned Lamont signed Public Act 25-167 on July 30 to let a task force work on lowering drug costs and making PBM pricing more transparent—Sen. Jeff Gordon said consumers may see lower prices in about a year as the state studies group purchasing and domestic generic drug production.  CT News Junkie

  • Fairfield National won 7 to 3 against Summerlin South on August 20 during the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Penn.
