CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Hartford leaders announced a crackdown on illegal ATV riders when they seized seven ATVs and two mopeds today—two of which were stolen—and six riders from outside Hartford are under investigation as new drones will soon be deployed for air support. WFSB-TV
- ➤ A defendant pleaded guilty in the visiting nurse murder case—authorities said the plea agreement was reached in court. WFSB-TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ University of Hartford announced on August 8th that it joined the Connecticut Automatic Admission Program—allowing Connecticut students with a weighted GPA of 3.0 or an unweighted GPA of 2.75 to receive automatic offers through their Common App account and waived application fees, essays, and recommendation letters. The program will later extend benefits to eligible students from outside Connecticut for select programs. University of Hartford
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Healthcare providers and state officials are preparing for the Big, Beautiful Bill that will change Medicaid and SNAP, with new work requirements expected to remove up to 200,000 Medicaid recipients by Jan. 1 and extra SNAP costs starting this October and next year. The Department of Social Services is coordinating with federal partners — including healthcare centers—to educate patients and plan for funding changes as lawmakers prepare to discuss further measures.
