- ➤ Officials confirmed Thursday morning that the Coast Guard suspended its search for a 6-year-old boy who fell into the Housatonic River in Stratford—turning the operation into a recovery effort. WFSB-TV

- ➤ Police responded to a shooting at 1200 Park Street early Thursday morning, finding a man (in his 40s, critical) and a woman (in her 30s, stable) who were taken to a hospital. WTNH News 8
- ➤ Alex Dekapa Griffiths, 42, was sentenced to eight years in jail for robbing a Subway restaurant in New Britain on June 16 when he used a BB gun that looked like a shotgun—one manager fainted during police questioning after fearing for her life, officials said. Connecticut Post

- ➤ Puerto Rico legislators will introduce a special committee in August to form a trade commission with Connecticut after Gov. Lamont signed a law in June that promotes energy and trade benefits for both regions. Ned Lamont signed the Firearm Industry Responsibility Act on August 7 at the State Capitol in Hartford— a law that lets people sue gun makers who neglect safety controls and closes a permit loophole for certain offenders— as part of efforts to strengthen gun regulation.
