  • Plainville residents met on Thursday night to voice concerns over Tilcon Connecticut’s quarry blasts that shook homes on May 20th and raised worries about water quality — many asked for an independent review while the company promised an open house in September.   • Crews responded to a tractor-trailer rollover on I-84 East in West Hartford Friday morning—state police reported minor injuries, one lane remaining open at 5:21 a.m. and officials notified the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection of a fuel spill.  WTNH News 8
  • Interstate 84 east in West Hartford is closed due to an overturned tractor trailer—officials are working to clear the debris.  WFSB-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • A Brazilian citizen (24) was charged in federal court on Thursday in Hartford for allegedly assaulting and resisting officers during his arrest, a case that began when he fled ICE agents, nearly hit a bystander, and fought with officers as he was taken to a federal building.  WTNH News 8

CULTURE NEWS

  • The three-day Greater Hartford Festival of Jazz is underway at Bushnell Park and will run through Sunday—drawing families to enjoy live music, food trucks, and a festive summer vibe.  FOX61
  • More than 60,000 people are expected to attend ConnectiCon at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford this weekend. The four-day festival will feature anime, video games, comics, live music, game shows, a free-play arcade, celebrity guests, panels and workshops — giving fans a full weekend of geek fun — as it celebrates a wide range of pop culture.  NBC Connecticut

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Connecticut Office of Statewide Marketing and Tourism launched a campaign promoting Connecticut pizza by placing billboards in New York City—which sparked mixed reactions from New Yorkers, with some calling for the ads to be taken down while others backed the campaign. Chief marketing officer Anthony said they received over 2,000 responses and saw a rise in trips to New Haven and online pizza views.  Connecticut Post
