CRIME NEWS

  • A New Britain woman, Fansheska Stuart, 30, faces charges after a December 10 crash on Interstate 91 near exit 45 in Enfield killed her infant son, Isiah Ortiz—she was speeding and under the influence of alcohol and cocaine when her vehicle flipped and he was not properly secured.  WTIC
  • A man linked to the shooting deaths of two people in Bridgeport was released on Wednesday after being granted clemency.  WFSB-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, Bushnell Park will host New England’s largest free jazz festival with live music starting at 6 p.m. and an expected crowd of 100,000, as the weekend brings extended sessions, food trucks, and vendor booths — a chance for locals and visitors to enjoy top jazz performances.  WTIC
  • Hartford Stage is hosting a summer program for teens where breakdancers act out Shakespeare’s Hamlet—mixing an old classic with new dance moves. The program gives teens a creative way to experience the play.  FOX61

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Swimming areas at Gardner Lake State Park in Salem, Indian Well State Park in Shelton, and Lake Waramaug State Park in Kent were closed to swimmers due to water quality concerns — tests were redone Thursday.  WFSB-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Connecticut's Attorney General said Capulet Entertainment and its owner Estevan Vega settled with the state to refund up to $50,000 in unused tickets, parking, camping passes, and fees after the failed Capulet Fest last summer. The deal bars Vega and his company from hosting events in Hartford for five years without securing a performance bond — consumers should send written refund requests to Vega’s attorney.  FOX61

  • UConn redshirt senior Alex Karaban was named to the 2024-25 NABC Honors Court for earning a 3.39 GPA after receiving his economics degree — an honor that recognizes his contributions on national title teams.
