  • On Sunday in Wallingford, Fostering Family Hope filled boxes for 40 foster students headed to college with basic supplies—pens, notebooks, toiletries, towels and comforters. Co-executive director Erin Johnston, a long-time foster parent, said the packages help close the resource gap that these students often face.  WTNH News 8
  • Wethersfield firefighters rescued ducklings separated from their mother at Millwoods Park on Sunday morning—removing them from a drainage brook and reuniting them safely with her.  WFSB-TV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Saturday, Jul 13, Newington firefighters knocked down a detached garage fire on Reservoir Road just before 5:00 p.m.—no injuries were reported and only a slight flame reached the home as officials continue investigating the cause.  WTNH News 8
  • An ammonia leak at the juice plant on West Road in Ellington caused a precautionary evacuation Sunday at 3:50 p.m.—officials said no injuries occurred and DEEP is checking the air until it is safe for crews to repair the refrigeration system.  CT Insider

  • Jose Morales was found guilty of murdering his girlfriend in Ansonia and is scheduled for sentencing today.  WFSB-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Joe Hall, a 42-year-old Ohioan, is walking across the country to share his personal mental health story and support suicide prevention in Connecticut—he plans to walk 15 miles a day and complete his 48-state trek in two-and-a-half years while overcoming setbacks like personal loss and emergency surgery. His journey, now in its second chapter, aims to inspire others to speak up about mental health.  NBC Connecticut
