- ➤ Kayleigh Roy of West Hartford fought off a black bear on June 29 while hiking in Simsbury—her 10-year-old pit bull mix Phoenix was injured and later treated at a local emergency veterinary hospital. CT Insider
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On July 11, the state Supreme Court unanimously upheld James Maharg’s conviction for the 2019 murder of his husband in Sherman and condemned the 13-hour interrogation during his alcohol withdrawal, stating that the officers failed to follow proper policy & jeopardized his health and the trial's fairness. - ➤ South Windsor police arrested 44-year-old Hartford resident Eliu Claudio on Thursday on firearm and reckless driving charges—his high-speed chase ended when he crashed into the police department’s fence. WFSB-TV
- ➤ A 15-year-old from East Hartford and a 14-year-old from Syracuse have been extradited to Florida to face felony charges for swatting calls made during an online Fortnite game—calls that falsely reported gunshots and a family shooting on June 4 and 5 and sent police to a home on Pilchard Drive.
