CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 33-year-old Derby bicyclist died at the hospital after colliding with a car near Circle Drive on Bantam Lake Road Wednesday night — an 83-year-old Morris driver in a 2015 Toyota Yaris was uninjured — and Connecticut State Police said the crash is under investigation. Connecticut Post
- ➤ A jury in Milford found Raul Valle not guilty of murder and intentional manslaughter for fatally stabbing James McGrath at a Shelton house party in 2022—while deadlock on lesser charges led judge Shari Murphy to declare a mistrial, leaving the possibility of a retrial on those counts. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Connecticut Attorney General William Tong said Thursday that the state will receive a portion of approximately $720 million from opioid settlements reached with eight generic manufacturers, and up to $8.4 million will support addiction treatment and prevention programs + the settlements also impose limits on future opioid production. - ➤ The Department of Consumer Protection announced a settlement where DraftKings will return over $3 million to about 7,000 consumers who took bonus offers from October 19th, 2021 to January 4th, 2023. The company will also retrain its marketing staff on CT gaming laws—DCP warned consumers to be alert for scam attempts. WFSB-TV
- ➤ Manchester officials will soon review 3 Squared LLC's application for a 148-unit condo project on Oakland Street near Union Pond+St. Bridget Cemetery, which could add over 400 bedrooms; the Planning and Zoning Commission is set to hold a public hearing on July 28 to discuss the plan. CT Insider
