CRIME NEWS

  • Mark White, 47, of Albuquerque was sentenced to 40 years in prison with six months of jail credit for the May 3, 2008 shooting death of Jumar Joiner in Hartford—new witness tips in 2017 led to his March 2022 arrest and a conviction on March 7—and is now in custody.  WFSB-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • A lot of fun events are in store across Connecticut this weekend as Hartford’s Got Talent finale is set for tomorrow at The Bushnell and a free Lawn Party runs at Nook Farm from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.—with live music, comedy, and art shows scheduled in towns like Mohegan Sun, Foxwoods, New Haven, and Westport for local residents to enjoy.  Connecticut Post

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Connecticut students protested in Washington D.C. yesterday to oppose a federal bill that would raise university endowment taxes from 1.4% to 21%—a change they believe could cut financial aid and increase student debt. They met with lawmakers and plan to publish op-eds to highlight the bill's potential impact on affordable college access.  CT Mirror

  • Gov. Ned Lamont signed a law that overhauls CT's century-old towing statutes after an investigation exposed predatory practices that hurt consumers.   • The Hartford Public Library earned the CT State Library 2025 Excellence in Public Libraries Award and received $17,000 to expand its digital literacy programming.
