CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Juan Novoa, 22, appeared in court after he was charged with evading responsibility in a West Hartford hit-and-run that seriously injured a pedestrian early Saturday morning. FOX61
- ➤ Hartford police charged 26-year-old Kevin Cruz-Gomez with murder and criminal possession of a firearm after he allegedly fatally shot 25-year-old Jared Floyd on May 7 at 1063 Capitol Ave + Cruz-Gomez was taken into custody and is held on a $2 million bond. WTNH News 8
- ➤ Hartford police seized five illegal dirt bikes, an ATV and one Can-Am off-road vehicle in Colt Park during a quality of life patrol this weekend and made several arrests on charges that have not been released. WTIC

- ➤ On June 4, Connecticut lawmakers passed a new biennial state budget and dozens of bills addressing long-standing debates on housing, energy costs, and special education cost sharing. HB 5002 includes a proposal — Work, Live, Ride — to boost affordable housing near transit, while climate and early childhood education bills aim to reduce emissions and ease child care costs. - ➤ Saif Kahn, a 32-year-old former Yale student and Afghan citizen, was arrested by ICE on May 9 at a Hartford courthouse during an immigration hearing and was tased when he ran for safety—he said he was taken to a cramped cell without proper bathroom access. He later spent 21 days in detention at a Massachusetts facility before being transferred to another center by bus and plane—he now awaits asylum and hopes to remain in America. NBC Connecticut
