EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Connecticut Senate passed an early childhood and special education bill on Friday evening by a 32–4 vote after a lengthy debate. The measure will create free and reduced cost pre-K, infant and toddler care for families earning up to $100,000 and add supports like a $10 million grant for special education— it now heads to the House for further review.  CT Mirror

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Firearm Industry Responsibility Act passed on May 30 after a 12-hour debate, allowing lawsuits against gun makers who did not use reasonable controls to keep guns—ghost gun parts and ammunition away from dangerous people. The bill now awaits Gov. Ned Lamont’s approval.  News 12 Connecticut
  • On May 29, advocates gathered at the state Capitol under the Nathan Hale statue to ask legislative leaders to keep energy assistance programs that may be cut as Senate Bill 4 is being negotiated. The coalition warned that proposals such as mandatory time-of-use billing for vulnerable residents—if adopted—could make energy less affordable before the session ends June 4.  CT News Junkie
