Over 3,000 Pratt & Whitney workers in East Hartford and Middletown ratified a new four-year contract that ended the strike which began May 5 — 74.1% voted in a May 27 ballot at the Toyota Oakdale Theatre.

The agreement reached early Friday before Memorial Day Weekend sets wage increases, job security and improved pensions, and the workers will return to work Thursday.

Union members at Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford voted on Tuesday on a tentative contract agreement with Pratt & Whitney that offers a 4% immediate wage increase, future raises, a $5,000 bonus, and improved pension & health care.

Nearly 2,100 machinists, who have been on strike since May 4 and have picketed Pratt & Whitney sites in East Hartford & Middletown, supported the vote as they seek better job security and wages.

Willimantic police said a pickup truck hit an adult moped rider on Monday at 9:12 p.m. at the intersection of Ash Street and North Street and left the scene without helping while first responders took the rider first to Windham Hospital then to Hartford Hospital where they remained in critical condition and officers are reviewing surveillance video and asking witnesses to come forward.

Connecticut regulators reached a settlement with Prospect Medical Holdings that will let Rockville General keep only emergency and behavioral health services while it becomes a satellite of Manchester Memorial Hospital.

The deal ends a state probe into service cuts that began in October last year and requires Prospect to announce a plan for the merger and hold a community forum within 60 days — ensuring patients have access to critical care.
