ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • No injuries were reported in a two-alarm fire at an occupied three-story multi-family home on 41-43 Pliny Street in Clay Arsenal; firefighters arrived four minutes after the 8:11 p.m. Friday call and had the blaze under control by 9:22 p.m.—the incident displaced 20 residents and crews from East Hartford and West Hartford assisted while investigators examine the cause.  WTNH News 8

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A Hartford man won $4,000,000 playing a CT lottery scratch game after buying his ticket at a Mobil gas station on Weston Street — he said he will use the winnings to pursue higher education while Mobil earns a $40,000 bonus for selling the ticket.  WFSB-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Over 500 students from Hartford-area public schools showed off their STEM skills at the annual fair held at the Hartford Armory on Friday+organizers said the event built excitement for science and technology programs that will guide future learning initiatives.  FOX61

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials in Hartford have launched a pilot program that will turn vacant lands into affordable homes to boost homeownership among residents. Mayor Arunan Arulampalam said the plan is funded with $2 million from the state and $2 million from the city—officials will form a task force soon to identify more sites.  Connecticut Public
  • Connecticut legislators approved a bill in the Commerce Committee on February 11th to create a commission with Puerto Rico that will promote trade, academic exchanges, and investment opportunities—supporters say it could strengthen ties with the state’s largest minority group. The proposal, introduced by Latino lawmakers, now awaits final review by the Chamber and Senate.  Connecticut Public
  • Dozens of veterans and supporters gathered at the Connecticut Veterans Memorial in Hartford on May 2 to protest proposed cuts of 83,000 VA jobs, including medical and support staff, saying the reductions risk curtailing vital care for veterans—legislators introduced measures to protect these positions.  CT News Junkie
  • In 2024, Connecticut had 605 wildfires and one firefighter died fighting the Hawthorne Fire on Lamentation Mountain with over 200 brush fires burning in October and November. State officials honored fallen firefighter Robert Sharkevich Sr., a 47-year veteran from Hartford and Wethersfield, on Friday—flags will be at half-staff on Sunday at a national memorial service in Maryland.  NBC Connecticut
